Interaction design

The process of creating efficient, effective and satisfying websites, apps and other digital interfaces by understanding not just the immediate needs of the user, but also how the user wants to, and is able to interact.

What is it?

Our user-centred interaction designers create efficient, effective and satisfying websites, apps and other digital interfaces by understanding not just the immediate needs of the user, but also how the user wants to, and is able to interact.

By applying user research we can ensure that the design of page templates, forms, purchase processes and individual controls (buttons, form fields etc.) are usable and accessible for the intended audience. For example, the layout and controls used in a website for older (non-digital native) audiences to make a G.P. appointment would be very different to those used in an app for schoolchildren to see what homework they’ve been assigned.

We design for any digital interface and designs can be quickly converted into Prototypes for Usability testing so that design can be iteratively improved before costly development.

Designs are usually produced in Figma or Axure, and will fully describe the structure and layout of the interface, as well as visual design details such as interaction styles, colours and typography. These are suitable for handing over to front and back end developers.

When to use interaction design?

When you want to create new design or iterate on existing design. Interaction design is scalable from individual controls, to small forms and widgets, through to whole website/app design.
