Accessibility audit

The audit is an in-depth evaluation of the site design and underlying technical implementation. It includes checks against the current standards for accessibility from the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI).

Key details

• Carried out by accessibility specialists - usually in 3-4 days.
• Includes a run through by and expert screen reader user
• Identifies the compliance level against appropriate accessibility standards (at present usually the Web Accessibility Initiative Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0).
• Includes a range of automated and manual checks.
  • The whole site is scanned to identify areas where a range of key issues occur.
  • Key pages and templates are assessed in-depth using a range of assessment tools and manual checks.
• Includes a free 're-test' to check for the implementation of our recommendations.

What do we deliver?

Detailed but clear reports including the following:

• Executive summary - including a clear statement of the level of accessibility compliance atained.
• Tables of required actions necessary to achieve desired accessibility levels - cross referenced to examples and recommendations.
• Clear illustrations of the issues - screenshots/cutouts explaining the issues and how to fix them.
• Lists of pages where accessibility issues occur (identified during the scan).

Accessibility user testing

Essentially the same as regular user testing but also includes testing with people with disabilities who may use adaptive technology such as screen readers.

Identifies the technical accessibility issues and also the real world design issues that make the site difficult or even impossible to use.

Key details

• We have a large database of volunteers with disabilities who take part in the tests.
• Tests are performed in our Labs, or when necessary in the volunteer's home or workplace (we wish to test the site not the volunteer's use of non-familiar equipment or software).
• Produces the same output as regular user testing but with an additional focus on the accessibility aspect.
• Often performed in conjunction with an accessibility audit

• Bespoke accessibility guidelines / standards / process documentation- easy to read and understand, example based and tailored for your organisation.
• Training and awareness seminars - tailored to your needs, from non-technincal business focussed seminars to detailed technical implementation training.
• Maintainance programs - depending on how and how often your site is updated we will design and deliver a regular testing process to ensure that the accessibility of your site is maintained. For example this may include monthly testing of 'volatile' or new pages, or pre-checking before pages are released to the live site.
