Accessibility auditing and evaluation

Whilst accessibility audits are concerned with conformance to guidelines, accessibility evaluations focus on helping you make practical improvements to accessibility.

Accessibility auditing

The process of analysing a website or app to establish conformance to recognised accessibility guidelines, such as W3C’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

Accessibility audits involve a combination of manual inspection and automated testing, to examine components of the design and build of systems, such as text readability and comprehension, ease of navigation, keyboard accessibility, support for assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers and voice recognition software, and much more.

An accessibility audit results in a detailed report outlining areas where the product meets or fails to meet accessibility standards, providing specific recommendations for improvements and corrections.

When to conduct an accessibility audit

Can be conducted on any live product or service on any device. Regular monitoring is recommended. Often an accessibility evaluation and usability testing with users who have access needs is preferable.

Accessibility evaluation

The process of analysing a website or app to ensure that it can be used by as many people as possible, including those with disabilities and visual, auditory, cognitive, or physical impairments.

Whilst accessibility audits are concerned with conformance to guidelines, accessibility evaluations focus on helping you make practical improvements to accessibility.

An accessibility evaluation, performed by an accessibility specialist at Bunnyfoot, explores the extent to which your website, app or product supports key accessibility principles. Our accessibility principles are based on a thorough understanding of industry-recognised accessibility guidelines and our own best practices, resulting from years of usability testing with users who have access needs. We include illustrative examples of where your website, app or product is doing well, and where and how it could be improved.

An accessibility evaluation is an excellent preparation for usability testing with users who have access needs. Addressing fundamental accessibility issues that impact users’ journeys beforehand will result in far richer insight from usability testing sessions.

When to conduct an accessibility evaluation

Can be conducted on any live product or service, on any device. Often recommended prior to usability testing with users who have access needs.
